Inspiring & Empowering Women
In honor of International Women’s Day, we talked with a few of the women here at Lupoli Companies on a variety of topics from what they enjoy about their work to lessons on meeting your own career goals. Check out what they had to say!
GERRYLYNN DARCY • Senior Vice President, Lupoli Development
SHAW ROSEN • Vice President, Residential Real Estate
PAULA DOUCETTE • Director of Marketing & Communications
JAIME CHEMALY • Director of Brand Vision
KELSEY FLANNERY • Resident Ambassador
With dedication and determination, GerryLynn Darcy enjoys working with a talented group of professionals to support the entrepreneurial spirit of Lupoli. Emphasizing perseverance, she says you have to “find out what you are really passionate about, ask yourself what relevant career path excites you and then map out a long-term conceptual plan that includes big goals and objectives even if you do not know how you will get there.” She also recommends finding a mentor in your field, getting hands-on experience and visualizing your journey. “Never give up on your dreams” she says. “Believe it and you will achieve it.”
A problem solver with a positive outlook, Shaw Rosen leads the development team for Riverwalk Lofts and Riverwalk West. She is tasked with creating amazing places where people enjoy living and if you’ve ever toured these stunning apartments, you know she is pretty great at her job. Her work is inspired by a personal philosophy, “do the right thing” and now she passes along the best advice she has ever received, “never bring your boss a problem without also proposing a solution.”
Inspired by the change she sees happening in Lawrence, Paula Doucette feels fortunate to be part of a tireless team making a difference in this community and beyond. When asked about career advice, she says, “don’t be afraid to explore opportunities and meet new people. And never underestimate the art of listening!” Adding that determination is key, she relies on an early lesson from her parents, “treat others as you would like to be treated. Be authentic, trust yourself, show kindness and never give up—sometimes the toughest path reaps the greatest rewards.”
Known for her hustle, Jaime Chemaly has prepared herself for any project by turning challenges into opportunities to grow. “Be a sponge,” she says. “Take advantage of every opportunity and situation presented to you and find a way to use it as a tool for learning and furthering your career goals.” Taking this a step further, she advises that you cannot become an expert instantly, “know what you know, and know what you don’t know. It’s okay to ask for help, or admit when you are uncertain about something,” she says. “If you’re not learning, you’re not moving forward!”
Personable and enthusiastic, Kelsey Flannery believes in always putting your best foot forward so you can be proud of every project you put your name on. She also advises young people just starting out in their careers to, “grow your network as much as possible, using every opportunity to meet new people in all industries.” A colleague once told her, “work hard, work smart, and get along with everyone,” she says. “Ever since then, I use this philosophy in everything I do!”
